A suspected militant, Jones
Abiri is in trouble with operatives of the Department of State Security Services,
(DSS); over the role he allegedly played in the rumoured plans by the military to overthrow the government
of President Muhammed Buhari.
Tony Opuiyo, DSS spokesman says
Abiri, alias Darikoro, is among the suspected militants, kidnappers and terrorists
that were arrested at various locations across the country.
The suspect was arrested on
July 21, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He is said to be the leader of the Joint
Revolutionary Council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF).
DSS says the suspect has been “furthering
separatist tendencies in connivance with other criminal gangs in the region”.
His
words: Darikoro operates under nickname “general-kill
and bury”, and has confessed, owning up to some criminal activities allegedly
committed by the JNDLF.
Some of the allegations labeled against the suspect are vandalism
of Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) trunk line in Ogboinbiri, southern Ijaw local
government area of Delta state.
Darikoro is also linked with
the bombing of oil pipeline belonging to Shell Development Company (SPDC) at Brass
Creek. The incident occurred on July 8, 2016
The statements of DSS: “The suspect sent threat messages to the management
of NAOC and SPDC demanding for payment
of N500million and N250million respectively.
He also threatened to launch missile
attacks against selected targets in Abuja including the presidential villa, Aso
Rock, the Nigerian secret police further disclosed.
