In Ojokoro local council
development area of Lagos, there are some A-list hotels, where fun seekers
visit to relax and unwind on weekdays and weekends.
Pacific hotel & suites, located at Federal Housing Estate, Ladio hotel at 614, Lagos-Abeokuta expressway and Rev Hotel at 43 Coker Road, are some of these hotels.
Surveillance showed that these hotels are always booming with good music, good African and continental dishes, good wine and lots of male and female customers.
Fun seekers storm these
hotels with their girlfriends, concubines, business associates, and friends.
This is as insider discloses
that at Pacific hotel for instance, a room cost N4, 000 per night on the
average. But, across the expressway, the ghetto nature of
parts of Ojokoro becomes visible.
Vicnuel can authoritatively disclosed that in some cheap
brothels, guest houses and makeshift shops around Social Club road, Fadipe
Street, Enitan road, Coker Road, etc, sex hawkers charge between N500 - N1000
for blow job.
Some of these hawkers, who
ordinarily should be either in secondary school, or university were
spotted loitering around an unnamed brothel painted in brown and green colours.
The brothel is located
opposite Fadipe Street, off Oluwole Showunmi Street, Ojokoro, Lagos.
Poverty, frustrations,
joblessness, peer pressure and other societal ills may have been the underlying
factors that drove these ladies to becoming commercial sex hawkers.
But, Sheiley, possibly from Benue state one of the sex hawkers at the brothel said that apart from blow job, “she charges N1000 to N1500 or more depending on the bargaining power of the customers.
Her words: “This is for short time service, meaning one ejaculation using a condom, which she insisted must be done within two to three minutes especially during peak periods at weekends”
She claims that she
completed her secondary school and the village which she refused to mention,
but did not make all her papers at WAEC.
But, a born-again sex
hawker, now an usher in one of the pentecostal churches around Ekoro, Lagos
said “It also depends on whether the man interested in sex is
a mugu, who does not know the average charges or is
loaded, meaning he has enough cash to spend or is desperate for sex”
A resident of Ojokoro,
who claims to be a regular customer at the brothel located around Enitan road
said that early in the morning at about 5.am to 7am and late in the evening are
the best times to patronize sex hawkers, due to the cover of darkness.
Steve Okunlola, an entrepreneur resident in the area lamented that in the night, some underaged sex hawkers could storm the football field located along Powerline Road, Ojokoro in search of customers, especially during weekdays, when business is at its lowest ebb.
Okunlola words: “Men, who are night crawlers, after drinking and smoking, could approach these hawkers for sex with an agreement to pay certain amount”.
But, some men may either
pay less than the agreed amount or run away after sex, forcing the hawkers to
start shouting and disturbing residents of the area.
A police officer at Alakuko police station in Ojokoro said off records that the police do raid known brothels and blackspots from time to time in search of sex hawkers.
But, Dolapo Badmos,
Lagos police image maker said that prostitution under any guise or form is
criminal and unacceptable.
Badmos, a superintendent of police however disclosed that since the beginning of the year, some suspected commercial sex workers have been arrested when police raided brothels and hotels in parts of the state.
Her words: Some have
been charged to court, even as the raiding of brothels and hotels
continues.
