There are strong
indications that the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has ordered
that a committee be set up to plan for a befitting burial for Ekpo Osung, an
Assistant Commissioner of Police, who died in Lagos.
Our correspondent
recalls that ACP Osung, an indigene of
Oron in Akwa Ibom State, died on Sunday, February 14, while swimming inside a
pool at a hotel in Ajah area of Lagos.
Until his death,
Osung was Area K Police Commander, Morogbo, Badagry, Lagos. But, some officers
in Lagos and Abuja, who spoke off records, said the death of the police topshot
is a mystery.
The officers
argued that “it is unheard of for a man who was born and brought up in Oron, a
predominantly riverine area in Akwa Ibom, whose indigenes are fully involved in
fishing to die just like that in a mere swimming pool”
Beyond the
mysterious dead angle allege by the officers, our correspondent gathered that
IGP Arase will soon appoint officers to serve as members of the burial
committee for ACP Osung.
Olabisi Kolawole,
Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja could not be reached for official comment
on the burial arrangements.
However,
Dolapo Badmus, Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Command said
that “ACP Osung was a very senior police officer and the police authorities will
plan a befitting burial for him”
Police sources
said the late ACP Osung, who resided with his family at OPIC Estate, Agbara was
instrumental to the tracking of the dare-devil armed robbers, who looted some
banks around the area, carting away millions of naira, saying that Osung knows
the terrains in Agbara and its environs.
