Vicnuel gathered
about 12 fully armed robbers arrived the bank premises around 2.00pm and began
to shoot sporadically into the air to scare customers and staffers of the bank.
They were said to have
allegedly over-powered the security operatives on duty.
The men were alleged to have carted away a yet to be disclosed
amount of money.
So far, three people
who are yet to be identified, have been confirmed dead after the operation
which lasted several hours.
Andrew Enwerem, police
public relations officer, Imo state police command confirmed the incident
saying that the police is on top of the situation.
According to him, one of the armed robbers who
was shot by the police, as well as other people who were wounded at the robbery scene have been transferred to the
Federal Medical Centre Owerri for immediate treatment.
