    FG plans to pay N30, 000 every month to 200,000 graduate teachers

    The federal government is planning to pay N30, 000 every month to each of the appointed 200,000 graduates who applied as teachers, nationwide.
    Vicnuel recalls that Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian President promised during his political campaign to employ 500,000 graduate teachers.

    The move is part of its plan to shore-up the education sector and to curtail the number of unemployed graduates in the country.
    We will devote a significant portion of our recurrent expenditure to institutions that provide critical government services. We will spend N369.6 billion in Education and in partner with the state government and local government areas, we shall recruit, train and deploy 500, 000 teachers…” President Buhari had said while presenting the 2016 appropriation bill to the National Assembly recently.

    But, the Cable reports, quoted Laolu Akande, senior special assistant on media to Prof Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president of Nigeria as saying that the 200,000 appointed were successful candidates at the second presidential economic communication workshop in Abuja, Friday, November 4, 2016.

    Akande said that the graduates will work for two years and will be paid N30,000 monthly;
    We have selected 200,000 graduates out of 500,000. This is the first batch,” he said.
    One hundred and fifty thousand will work as teachers while 50, 000 will work as extension workers.
    “Their pay which is 30, 000 per month, will go directly into their account.‎
