The Canadian
government at the weekend in Lagos advised business persons in Nigeria to hook
up to the Association of Businesspeople and Investors of Nigeria and Turkey
(ABINAT), in order to ensure that more business opportunities flow into the two
countries.
Marc-Andre Savage,
manager, Trade Section at the Canadian Embassy in Abuja gave this advice during
an ABINAT-Canada interactive forum on business opportunities and collaboration
with Canadian companies held in Lagos.
Speaking during the
forum, Savage said that Canada with a population of 36million people has the
most comprehensive network of international trade professionals located in
offices across the country and 174 cities in the world, Nigeria inclusive.
His words: “The
Canadian professionals deal with small, medium and large companies doing
business in the areas of export, investments abroad, technology, capital
seeking and research development partnerships.”
The Canadian trade
manager further explained that if more business persons dealing in agriculture,
mining, export, textiles, construction, furniture, machineries and energy in
Nigeria join the association, they stand a chance of benefiting from the many
business opportunities in Turkey.
He assured that with
an estimated population of 180million people, Nigeria has the market and
business persons in Nigeria will be linked up with TUSKON, which is the largest
business non-governmental organization in Turkey.
“Some of the benefits
members of the association from Nigeria stand to gain include: coming together
to exhibit their products and services in an international community, easy and
reliable trade in business and investments, market potential assessment,
qualified contacts, problem solving, equipment supplies, training and services
supplies, among others”, he said.
Chief Emmanuel Ochi, chairman of the occasion
expressed the gratitude of ABINAT for the large turnout of members and non members
to the forum.
He assured that in the years ahead, more Nigerian
business people, who are duely screened and admitted as member of the
association will be linked up with professionals in Canada who are into various
kinds of businesses.
