PROTEST AGAINST
NON-INCLUSSION IN THE PLANNED EDO STATE GOVERNORSHIP DEBATE ORGANIZED BY
CHANNELS TELEVISION IN EDO
The above subject matter
refers please.
As a Candidate in the
forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, slated for September 10, 2016
and cleared by the Independent Electoral Commission to contest the said
election under the platform of the National Conscience Party, I am constrained
to register my protest for my non-inclusion in the planned debate coming up on
September 4, 2010 in Edo State.
This action in all intents
and purposes contravenes the 2010 Electoral Act as amended in 2011.
Specifically, section 100 (2) –(5) and I quote below:
2. State apparatus
including the media shall not be employed to the advantage or disadvantage of
any political party or candidate at any election
3. Media time shall be allocated equally among the political parties or candidates at similar hours of the day.
4. At any public electronic media, equal airtime shall be allocated to all political parties or candidates during prime times at similar hours each day, subject to the payment of appropriate fees.
5. At any public print media, equal coverage and conspicuity shall be allotted to all political parties.
From the foregoing, it is
very clear by the non-inclusion of the National Conscience Party candidate in
the September 4 2016 debate, that, Channels Television has contravened the
above sections because we did not receive ANY invitation.
We believe that, Channels
Television can still redeem its image by extending a similar invitation to me.
This letter is copied to both National Broadcasting Commission and the
Independent Electoral Commission for their attention.
Suffice to remind us that,
but for the National Conscience Party, parties like the All Progressive
Congress would not have been registered, because NCP spear-headed the struggle
to fight for multi-party electioneering in Nigeria.
It is equally sad, that,
medium that should promote and encourage the ordinary citizen participation in
the democratic process in Nigeria are deliberately being sidelined because of
money.
We are prepared to protest
this deliberate political marginalization through legal and constitutional
means unless this error is corrected as soon as possible.
I am prepared for the
debate and better equipped to govern Edo State more than any candidate in the
race today.
Long live Edo State
Yours truly,
Pastor Peters Osawaru OMORAGBON
National Conscience Party Governorship Candidate
