Resident
doctors in government hospitals in Ogun state, south-west Nigeria, Monday
explained why they decided to embark on indefinite strike.
Dr Oladunni Adetola, chairman,
Nigerian Medical Association told journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun state, that the
state government has failed to meet their demands, due to the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards health
matters.
His words: “Imagine a general hospital having
only a doctor covering it. Most of our hospitals have less than half of the
personnel they had about seven to eight years ago”.
According to him, “the laboratories are not equipped and common
essential drugs are not available at the pharmacies, thereby pushing the
citizens to buy substandard drugs”
