Comptroller-general of the Nigerian
Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede,
has promised a 48-hour passport delivery to applicants within and outside
Nigeria.
This follows series of complaints
and agitations from passport applicants.
The immigration boss gives passport control
officers (PCOs) and passport issuing desks in Nigeria and foreign missions, 48
hours to clear all backlog of passport applications.
He
warned that failure to comply with the directive would be interpreted to mean
the PCO is incompetent and will therefore be removed.
Ekpedeme
King, service public relations officer quoted the immigration boss on Monday as
saying that the timeline for processing of passports remains 72hours and he
expects every passport office to conform to the policy forthwith.
