Airforce personnel allegedly beat-up FAAN official in Lagos

Incident of military brutality against innocent civilians was witnessed on Monday at the Lagos airport as two Nigerian Airforce personnel beat a Federal Government staff to coma

The victim, a staff of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is authorized to work at the international wing of the airport but all entreaty to explain to the security men fell on deaf ears.

The two airmen who are in charge of traffic control at the departures section of the terminal descended on the FAAN staff, Mohammed Shuaibu who had asked his friend to come and pick him at the terminal but when he arrived the airmen attempted to remove the car’s plate numbers for parking longer than necessary.
Shuaibu was said to have appealed to the Nigerian Air Force personnel not to take away the plate numbers but to no avail.

An eye witness told our reporter that the FAAN protocol and passages staff explanation who also wore his identity card having introduced himself fell on deaf ear and an argument ensued.

During the following confrontation both men descended on Shuaibu until he collapsed while blood gushed out of his nostrils leading to lose breath.

Officials of the agency disclosed that Shuaibu was quickly taken to the FAAN clinic at the airport but had to be transfer to airport hospital when it becomes obvious his life was in great danger.

An hospital staff told our correspondent that he was yet to regain consciousness as at the time filing this report (Monday evening).

The official explained, “He (Shuaibu) is one of our staff at the protocols and passages section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, he asked his friend to come and pick him.

When he came he parked at the departures and called our staff who went to meet him. By the time he arrived he saw two airmen standing with him and insisting to remove his plate numbers.

“Shuaibu begged them and introduced himself as a FAAN staff, but they seemed not to care so argument ensued that they started beating him. By the time other people arrived the scene, Shuaibu had collapsed and blood was flowing from different parts of his body.

We first moved him to FAAN clinic where they said his heart beat was slowing and he was finding it difficult to breathe, so we have to rush him to the airport hospital,” the FAAN official told reporters.

A naval rating, Ifeanyi Chukwu from Apapa Command in Lagos and his brother, who is been held by the police in Panti brutalised a trolley operator at the General Aviation Terminal also in Lagos leading to his death hours later at LUTH in Ikeja.
