A major hopeful for the Ukwani Local Government Area seat for the Delta State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the run up to the 2015 general elections, Chief Festus Okwudibie, has berated the member representing the area, Dr Alphonsus Ojo, over what he described as poor representation of the people.
A grassroot politician, Okwudibie who described himself as Alphonsus Ojo’s red card said rather than meaningfully representing Ukwani people in the hallowed chamber, Dr Ojo busied himself playing politics of defection from one political party to the other thereby compromising the good of the people.
The APC hopeful stated this in a chat with our correspondent in Asaba, the Delta State capital Friday, as he accused the second term lawmaker of being responsible for the underdevelopment of the area at the state level in the past eight years adding that, if elected, his priorities would include influencing rules that are capable of catapulting Ukwani people to the front seat in the state political equation.
He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led-administration in the state did not executive any meaningful project or embark on any pro masses policies but blamed the party’s lawmakers for compromising the good of the people saying the magic wand for development lies with the APC.
“The people of Ukwani suffered setbacks in terms of attracting the positives of democracy to our land owing to the fact that we have a supposed lawmaker in the House who went to only concur to bills sponsored by colleagues but sponsored none of his own denying my good people any meaningful impact on their lives.
“Dr Ojo, since 2007 has been deceiving our people in the name of being a lawmaker whereas he wasted over seven years now pursing personal interests.
We saw that played out when he hoped from the PDP to DPP and from the DPP back to PDP over the politics of who gets what, when and how in their struggle for the leadership of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
“Unfortunately, the same man has the developed the moral rectitude to request a third term from the bewildered people of Ukwani whose lives have nosedived deeper into poverty, isolation, darkness, poor sanitation…
“I stand the best chance to deliver quality representation to the agrarian people of Ukwani while Ojo should be shown the way out of the House. He has lost it totally and the people of Ukwani must move on in a new and better era of representation.” Okwudibie stated, adding that the people of the area should ensure they have their voter’s cards intact saying it was their visa for a better leadership.
