Akinwunmi Ambode is “insulting” Lagosians with his advert

     By Emmanuel Udom
Akinwunmi Ambode is politically “anointed” to take over from Babatunde Fashola, the incumbent governor, who from my humble estimations has performed creditably well.

Honestly, I will score the Fashola-led administration in Lagos 85 percent in the manner he has delivered democracy dividends to Lagosians, since he took over from Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a political master strategist and investor.

This does not imply that Fashola is a saint and has not stepped on toes. He is not a saint and has stepped on toes so many times. Everything worked together for good, says the bible.

Naturally, Ambode, an All Progressive Congress flag bearer, who is scheming and strategizing to unseat Fashola via the ballot box, is expected to take a pause after beating Jimi Agbaje, the  governship aspirant from the Peoples Democratic Party, to take stocks.

This is if he wins the February 28 governorship election in Lagos, a multi-ethnic state and certainly a commercial nerve center of Nigeria.

It is going to be a close marking and bumper to bumper governorship battle in Lagos, if you ask me. I may be wrong, I may be right.
Away from this preamble, I am feeling quite uncomfortable with the Ambo ho ambo advert of the APC, currently running.

The advert in Yoruba, says Eko she she bere ni ho ambo. Sorry, I am not a Yoruba man. But, my impression about this advert is that Ambode, the anointed is just starting out in Lagos.

I get this impression that Lagos, with an estimated population of some 17million people has been stagnant. This is dead wrong. Fashola has performed and has worked tirelessly to move the former capital of Nigeria to greater heights in all the sectors.

For Ambode and his media team to think that Eko is just beginning in terms of democracy dividends is to rubbish the good works that Fashola as well as other past military and civilian governors of the state have done. This is my take and I stand to be challenged.

It is the business of Ambode to continue from where Fashola stopped. Knock out some policies and projects and knock in others to move Lagos to greater heights.

The Fashola administration is not perfect; the Ambode regime is not going to be perfect, if he floors Jimi Agbaje. Therefore, the Ambode media team should stop telling us that Lagos is just beginning. I rest my pen for now.
