Women Advocates Research and
Documentation Centre (WARDC) in collaboration with Department for International
Development (DFID) and Voices for Change (V4C) is encouraging women in Nigeria
to participate in politics, as a way of helping to move the country forward.
Dr.
Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, executive director of WARDC
in a press statement said that "Meet
the mentors/ mentees meeting “is
intended to provide opportunities for adolescent girls and women between ages
18 and 25 who have potentials and have shown interest to contest for elective
offices within political parties, student union government and other sectors of
the society to be mentored by seasoned parliamentarians and successful women in
their various fields.
This meeting will also provide
a responsible and structured mentoring that focuses on the needs of the
mentees, providing them with caring and supportive relationships that
encourages the mentees to develop and increase their senses of self-worth,
within and outside the home.
The meeting is planned to hold
Friday this week at a popular hotel in Ikeja area of Lagos, south-west Nigeria.
