The Nigerian Army has defended retired Major-General Muhammed Buhari, who is aspiring to unseat Dr Goodluck Jonathan as president of Nigeria in February
It could be recalled that Buhari in the last couple of days has come under public scrutiny on the status of his certificates, which made him and his party uncomfortable.
But, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye, director, public relations of the Nigerian Army has come out to tell the world that the army is in custody of the certificates of retired officers, including that of Buhari.
Laleye said that these certificates and credentials could readily be released from the custody of the army to any serving or retired officers in need of them.
According to him, there is a procedure for the retrieval or collection of the certificates, which is known to all serving or retired officers of the military.
It could further be recalled that Buhari had said in an affidavit he deposed to at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on November 24, 2014, that all his certificates were with the secretary, military board.
The affidavit was handed over by the APC presidential aspirant to the Independent National Electoral Commission on December 18, 2014.
“All my academic qualifications, documents as filled in my presidential form, President APC/001/2015, are currently with the Secretary, Military Board as of the time of presenting this affidavit. The affidavit is made in good faith and for record purpose,” Buhari stated.
