Totowu waters: 'I fit pay your salary', pry school dropout tells master's degree holder

Business is good for those folks on Totowu waters. But, where is the place? you dare ask.

Well, Totowu waters are the riverine area linking Lagos to Ogun state. From Igando in Lagos, drive through Isuti to Odo and you will come face to face with the waters.

Salisu claims to be a 17-year-old primary school dropout. But, he boasted Sunday while conveying 18 passengers in his canoe from Odo to the Igbesa side of Totowu waters that he can pay the salaries of some jobless graduates. How true that is, I do not know.

His words: “I don de do this canoe business for years, and I don build my house at Igbesa, Ogun state.”

A man who claimed to hold a master’s degree flayed up while being conveyed with other passengers, this writer inclusive, inside Salisu’s canoe.
The issue had to do collecting change from the N1000 he paid Salisu’s canoe conductor.

But, the self-acclaimed master’s degree holder instead of exercising patient was speaking big, big grammar.

He stared propounding theories on how to effectively run canoe transport business. My dear readers, come and see laugh in action.

Trust Lagosians, they turned the whole scene to another Baba Aluwe circuit show.

By the way, a journey from one end of the river to the other will cost each passenger N100 and Salisu was bragging that he takes home N10, 000, on the average on a good day after settling all the levies. He may be right, he may be wrong.

But, independent check showed that canoe transporters are like Ijaw boys. They live, eat, drink and mate in the waters.

Therefore, as early as 5.am daily, when some folks are still sleeping they will hit the ground running in search of passengers with their canoe.

Off course, some of them may refresh with ogogoro, igbo, taba, or any herbal concoctions registered by NAFDAC.

I only hope and pray the NDLEA folks are not reading this piece. I beg ho ho. Let go through the Totowu waters together next time, please.
