In four
months, Skye bank of Nigeria Plc has fired 250 workers in what insider sources
alleged are moves to downsize in order to survive recession.
Vicnuel gathered that some of the workers fired include
outsourced and auxiliary members of staff, even as the
number of non-core staff fired could not be ascertained.
A statement
issued Monday evening by the bank stated that the decision of the management of
the bank to relieve the affected workers
of their duties was made based on varying reasons which ranged from
poor performance, disciplinary issues and also in their bid to downsize.
However,
some of the workers worst hit were tellers, drivers and internal security
guards were outsourced by staff in outsourced functions (SOF).
The
management of the bank has also approved payment of the entitlement and
severance packages to those affected as contained in their engagement letter
and as agreed with the workers union.
