A daylight robbery pattern seem to have developed
in Calabar as another attack was recorded in broad daylight on Tuesday in the
city center.
Armed robbers attacked a Lift Above Poverty
organization (LAPO) microfinance bank along Yellow Duke Street by Ekpo Abasi
Street in Calabar South around 4.pm.
The robbers who were seven in number
according to an eye-witness made away with huge amount of money.
Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer,
ASP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident.
She said they got a call that a robbery was ongoing
and immediately deployed men to the scene of the incident.
She said an investigation had been launched
into the situation.
It was gathered that a customer was shot in
the incident and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“The boys seven in number just stormed the LAPO
Microfinance Bank around 4pm in a small vehicle, where they operated
for over 30 minutes. They even shot someone in the process.
When they were done they came out to the road and
started shooting in the air.
Everybody scampered for safety and they stopped a
taxi that was just passing buy and snatched the vehicle. After that some of
them entered the car they came while the remaining entered the taxi they just
snatched and escaped,” the eye witness said.
It would be recalled that an A gang of armed robbers
stormed an MTN partner’s office.
Jamobicom Global located along Old
Marian road behind DESAM House in Calabar last week in the noon hours leaving
three persons with sever gunshot injuries.
Amongst the injured was a mobile policeman
who want to the office reportedly to register his phone number as other customers
and the robbers on sighting the policeman who was armed went for him first,
shot at him severally and carried his rifle.
Another customer and a staff were also shot at
by the robbers who numbered five.
The robbers also dispossessed workers and
customers of their phones, money and stole valuable items from the shop.
