Kingsley Iyeke, a
35-year-old police officer serving at marine police base in Calabar, Cross
River state reportedly killed his colleague, identified as Edet Archibong during gun duel between the police and cultists.
Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, police commissioner
for the state in told journalists Monday that after the incident, the police
swung into action and track-down some of the cultists in their hideouts.
Drilled
by police detectives, one of the cultists fingered Iyeke, a police corporal
from Rivers state as their member, confessing that it was the policeman-cum-cultist
that shot Archibong, the police inspector.
Ozi-Obeh
further explained that during trial, the police found out that Iyeke was truly member
of the cult group and was subsequently dismissed.
But, Iyeke
told journalists that it was a frame-up as he is not a member of the unnamed
cult group.
