JTF, militants in bloody clash in Delta

Operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and suspected militants Thursday engaged in a bloody clashed around Warri in Burutu local government area of Delta state.

Vicnuel gathered that the clash occurred when JTF operatives code-named: Operation Delta Safe raided a suspected militants’ camp in Okosugbene and engaged the suspects in a shootout.

It was gathered that the operatives arrived the camp with 2 fighters’ jets and 8 gunboats about 6.am on that fateful day and began to shield the place.

Online reports have it that the camp was said to be an abandoned hideout used by the former militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and now occupied by sea pirates.

But, JTF were said to have acted on a tip-off on a raid that lasted for about an hour. ”Information about casualties is still unknown.

”The raid caused tension among dwellers of riverine communities as residents fled for safety,” the source said.

Sector 1 commander of JTF, Col Alhassan Grema confirmed the raid,  but declined to give details.
