    Lagos taskforce operatives arrest 1750 area boys in October

     Operatives of the Lagos state taskforce have arrested 1750 suspected area boys in various parts for the month of October 2016.

    Olayinka Egbeyemi, the taskforce chairman made this disclosure, saying that during the month under review, 1105 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, and 1450 offenders were charged to court.

    According the Egbeyemi, taskforce operatives engaged commercial motorcycle operators plying restricted routes around Apapa during the last Lagos environmental sanitation day held Saturday, 29th of October, 2016.

    His words: “Police officers and paramilitary men were detailed to different parts of the state for general monitoring and total compliance of people with the Lagos State environmental sanitation day across the state”.

    'Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Day' exercise across the State which is usually last Saturday of every month commercial activities including movement of persons/vehicles were always restricted between 7am to 10am according to the laws.

    But, at  Apapa without no any regards to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Laws people were seen flagrantly engaging in all sorts of illegal commercial activities particularly motorcycle operators plying restricted routes (picking/dropping passengers) between restricted hours by (7am to 10am).

    SP Egbeyemi stated that while his men were monitoring and enforcing a total compliance by arresting miscreants/hoodlums and impounding motorcycles on restricted routes around the area, motorcycle operators mobilized themselves in hundreds and attacked his boys with stones, matchets, broken bottles and woods.
    The Chairman stated that mobilized miscreants/hoodlums who were majorly motorcycle operators damaged windscreens and front lights of 4 trucks belonging to the Agency while 2 other hilux vehicles were seriously destroyed with one driver injured on his head.

    He stated further that during the fracas the operatives of the Agency successful impounded 27 motorcycles and arrested 5 of these mobilized motorcylcle operators who were mainly Chadian and Nigerien .

    SP Egbeyemi however confirmed that the Lagos State Government has directed that the entire Apapa area be thoroughly sanitised of miscreants and hoodlums including motorcycle operators plying restricted routes for a safer and a cleaner environment for the entire people of Apapa and the State at large.

    The Chairman expressed that huge investment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on security and provisions of modernised infrastructural facilities around Apapa and it's environs must be seen encouraging both local and foriegn investors and not to discourage them.

    He therefore urged all residents living in all nooks and crannies of Apapa and its environs to please give a maximum cooperation and support to the Agency during the operation 'Total Enforcement on Environmental Sanitation Execercise' around Apapa

    He reitrated that during the exercice every single motorcycle operators plying restricted routes including miscreants/hoodlums would be arrested.
    5 arrested miscreants includes Belo Sheu (17years), Ali Don (20years), Aminu Ataru (22years), Musa Yahusa (15years) and Saliu Musa (30years).

    Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Fatai Owoseni after well briefed about the incident by SP Olayinka Egbeyemi directed that all those arrested in connections with all damaged vehicles be immediately charge to court for malicious damage of government properties.
