Jerry Attah, public relations officer, federal operation unit, zone A of the Nigeria Customs service, Ikeja, Lagos, Friday declared point-blank that officials of the anti-smuggling agency have the power to break into a warehouse in their attempt to perform their constitutional duties.

Speaking when he met with members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, (CRAN) at Mike Okiro Media Center at Ikeja GRA,Lagos, Attah said that the powers conferred on customs officials by the law are not limited to seizing smuggled goods at the borders only.

His words: “customs officials have the power to break into warehouses or storm open markets in order to seize smuggled goods, anywhere in the country”.

Attah further disclosed that FOU is the police arm of the customs, saddled with the responsibility of checkmating the activities and operations of other customs units across the federation.
