The National Agency
for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has identified top
three causes of human trafficking in Nigeria.
Orakwue Arinze,
director, public enlightenment for the agency mentioned the causes as: poverty,
unemployment and threat of witchcraft.
Speaking in Abuja, north-central
Nigeria Monday, Arinze said that human trafficking had continued to thrive in
Nigeria, even though there were existing laws that prohibit the act.
He however appealed to government to
address the issues, in order to complement NAPTIP’s war against human
trafficking.
