Chief Lawrence Akanbi, chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajao Estate, Isolo local council development area (LCDA) of Lagos, south-west Nigeria is presently going through hellish times.
Akanbi, our correspondent gathered is currently undergoing probe for anti-party activities for collecting 54 bags of 25kg rice from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives member representing Oshodi Isolo Federal Constituency 2 in the Lower Legislative Chamber, Honorable Tony Nwulu for distribution among APC members in the LCDA as Christmas gift.
The gift from Nwulu to Akanbi, according to some APC members in the council area, particularly the ward, was the climax of the alleged anti-party activities of the ward chairman. “During the last general elections, he (Akanbi) collected money from Nwulu, who is his personal friend, to work against the interest of APC candidates,” some APC members who spoke with thegazellenews.com alleged.
This medium learnt exclusively that on Wednesday, 23rd December, 2015, three executive council members of the APC in the ward went to the residence of Akanbi to deliberate on how the 30 bags of rice accruing to members of the party in the ward from APC appointed officers and aspirants for various elective positions in the LCDA would be judiciously distributed among party members.
Thegazellenews.com’s investigations revealed that each ward in Isolo LCDA had about 30 bags of rice for distribution among members provided by appointed officers and aspirants for various elective offices in the area of on the platform of APC.
The three ward exco members had hardly sat down when a bus from the PDP Rep member came into Akanbi’s compound and the bags of rice were offloaded.
The bemused APC members asked the ward chairman why he would collect bags of rice from a PDP Rep member for distribution to APC members when there are enough rice for distribution from the APC leaders.
Akanbi reportedly told the exco members that he would contact the APC chairman in Isolo LCDA, Alhaji Raji whether he should collect the rice or not.
It was reported that he never called the party chairman but when Alhaji Raji learnt of the incident, he called Akanbi why he should collect the rice from the PDP lawmaker. Akanbi allegedly lied to Raji that he was not at home when the bags of rice were brought into his compound.
Alhaji Raji reportedly ordered him to return the bags of rice but as at the time of writing this report Akanbi has not returned the bags of rice.
The Chairman of APC in Lagos State who incidentally is from the Federal Constituency, Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale, has reportedly ordered that Akanbi be probed by the party leadership in the LCDA.
