Protest: Group condemns Aregbesola, Police over Students’ attack in Osun

    By Emmanuel Udom

Following the Monday attacked of the Students of Osun State –owned
tertiary institutions, who staged a peaceful  protest against the
insensitivity of  State governor, Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola led-State
government over industrial action embarked upon by the affected
institution lecturers , by the men of Nigeria Police on the order of
Mr. Aregbesola, a human rights group in the State, the Civil Societies
Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEO) has strongly
condemned   Aregbesola and the security agents, especially, the police
over the attacked on the protesting students thereby disrupting their
peaceful demonstration  in the first instance, saying that the action
of Aregbesola and police were against the law of the land that gives
freedom of expression and assembly to the citizens as stipulated in
the Section 39,40 and 41 of the amended 1999 Constitution of the
    Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The group also stated that  Aregbesola has violated the section 18
of the amended 1999 constitution which directs government policy
towards ensuring that there are equal and adequate educational
opportunities at all levels, promotion of science and technology,
eradicate illiteracy and compulsory and  free universal primary
education, secondary education, university education and  free adult
    literacy programme.

Reacting to the incident through a signed statement by the group’s
Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Almi Sulaiman, which a copy was made
available to newsmen in Osogbo, the State capital yesterday, declared
that the launching of physical attack, peculiar insult, common assault
and unwarranted cheating against the protesting Students by the State
government and security agents, were contrary to the criminal code/act
cap C: 38 of 2010 and laws of the federation (2004).

Comrade Sulaiman further described the development as barbaric,
ungodly, undemocratic, illegal, unconstitutional and uncivilized act
that capable of returning Osun State to the despotic dark days of
military government where lives were brutish and shortish, calling on
well meaning Nigerians, particularly, the good people of Osun State at
home and abroad to call Mr. Aregbesola to order on his brigandage
approach of tyrannical government against the people of the State.

CSCEO boss noted that Aregbesola has been detesting criticism against
his government since it came on board on November 27th, 2010,
supporting his argument with the serious attacked launch against their
July 7th,2015  peaceful demonstration tagged “Osun Emancipation Rally”
where Aregbesola’s groomed political thugs, popularly known as “State
Boys”,  were sent to disrupt the peaceful rally and as well beat the
participants ,including, human rights activists, civil servants,
retirees, traders, students among others,  at the said peaceful rally
blue black and security agents were watching keenly on the order of
Mr. Aregbesola who claimed to be the Chief Security Officer of the
    State.

Confirming Aregbesola’s instruction to the Police on the subject
matter, Sulaiman recalled his phone conversation (with the
number-08171371684 at 8.14 a.m.) with immediate past Commissioner, Mr.
Abubakar Marafah where he declared that i Aregbesola
has instructed the men of Nigeria police through its office to arrest
and disgrace my humble self as the Executive Chairman, Centre for
Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) during the peaceful protest
rally to submit the fourteen(14) impeachable offences against Mr. Rauf
Aregbesola on  Thursday 25th June,2015 at  the State House of Assembly
    Complex, Abeere,Osogbo.

According to him, “Mr. Rauf Adesoji  Aregbesola and his co-travelers
have committed the series of criminality offences ranging from
attempted murder, threat to lives and property, and mis-appropriation
of public funds  which  contrary to the section 316,383,407,408, and
    409 of the criminal code/act Cap C: 38 of 2010 & laws of the
federation (2004) and criminally violated Section 15,16 and 17 of the
amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”

Speaking on the Aregbesola’s tertiary institution merging policy, he
seriously warned Mr. Aregbesola against the diabolical and illegal
merging plan of the four State owned tertiary institutions without
considering the interest of the people of the State, especially, the
Students and parents/guardians, promised that the entire masses of the
State would be mobilized against the diabolical plan of Mr. Aregbesola
and his cronies over illegal merging of institutions in the State,
adding that “enough is enough of anti-masses policies of Mr. Rauf
    Aregbesola in Osun State”.

Sulaiman therefore called for unconditional immediate release of the
arrested Students by the security agents and  tender the public
apology  to the arrested students in the interest of equity, fairness
and justice and  the State government should take the responsibility
of  the health care bill of the injured students, in order to avoid
the sacharscol and cacophonic of noise that could lead to the
professionalism ego-entry against the constabulary mentality of the
unlawful act of the security agencies, particularly, the Nigeria
Police in Osun State that circumscribe and scrimmage the  sagacious
and sagacity of truth and justice as stipulated by the amended 1999
constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
