Metro recalls
that Wednesday, the news went viral that Sowore was arrested by police officers
attached to Area F police command in Ikeja, Lagos.
The
publisher was allegedly arrested based on a petition written by Lekan Fatodu, a
UK-based publisher alleging criminal defamation and blackmail against Sowore.
But,
Owoseni told journalists that the allegation by Sahareporter’s publisher that the
police worked in concert with Fatodu to nail him was not true. In fact the
allegation is alarming.
Sowore told the police that he was being
attacked by suspected hoodlums along Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
His
words: “When police officers arrived the place, they met Sowore and Fatodu in a
heated argument and invited them to my office, and the matter was eventually handled
by Area F police officers.”
Owoseni
insisted that the Saharareporter’s publisher raised false alarm when it was a
case of two fighting, even as he disclosed that the case, which will be handled
professionally was transferred to the state criminal investigations department (SCID),
Panti Yaba.
The
police chief debunked the media reports that Sowore was arrested, insisting
they were invited and were never detained.
