January 17, media
reports had it that Ibrahim Idris; the inspector-general of police has ordered
the redeployment of Fatai Owoseni, Lagos state police commissioner.
The reports stated
that Owoseni was to proceed to the National Institute of Police and Strategic
Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos.
The amiable Lagos
police chief was to be replaced by Garuba Umar, officer-in-charge of the IGP
monitoring team, who was elevated four days earlier to the rank of a
commissioner.
Umar has served as
divisional police officer of Ikoyi police station and commander, Mobile Police
Squadron 19 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Some police sources
alleged that the redeployment of Owoseni may have been put on hold for now,
considering the manner he tamed criminalities in various parts of the state.
But, other sources
also alleged that the amiable police chief may have pulled the strings in Abuja
police headquarters that stopped the purported redeployment.
Vicnuel check Friday at the Lagos state police command
headquarters in Ikeja GRA revealed that Owoseni was still in charge, while Umar
is yet to resume.
Dolapo Badmos,
Lagos police image maker confirmed to News Agency of Nigeria that Owoseni still remains the police commissioner in the
state.
Her words: “The police
is an organization that deals with documents and so far there is no signal or
document to the effect of removing Owoseni.”
