NJC suspends 7 judges over alleged corruption

The National Judicial Council, NJC, on Thursday suspended seven senior judges arrested in October by the Department of Security Service, DSS, for alleged corruption.

It is suspected that the NJC took the decision to suspend the judges due to mounting pressure from the public after the body initially refused to suspend them.

reports that the suspension of the judges was arrived at after the NJC’s 7th meeting held between Wednesday and Thursday.

A communique issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, said the decision was taken to avoid allowing persons under investigation to to partake in presiding over judicial matters at the same time.

    The affected judges are:
Justice Sylvester Ngwuta – Supreme court Judge; Justice Inyang Okoro – Supreme Court Judge; Justice Mohammed Tsamiya –Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division; Justice Kabiru Auta – Kano State High Court; Justice Adeniyi Ademola – Federal High Court, Abuja; Justice I. A. Umezulike – Former Chief Judge of Enugu state and Muazu Pindiga – Federal High Court, Gombe Division.
