Why police authorities embark on e-statement registration in Nigeria

    By Emmanuel Udom
The estimated 350,000 serving police officers across states of the federation and Abuja, the federal capital territory, are about now putting finishing touches to the completion and submission of their e-statement registration forms.

This follows the directive from the central bank of Nigeria, through the office of the inspector-general of police, urging police officers to complete and submit these forms in order that their monthly salaries could be paid directly into their various accounts instead of passing through the police hierarchy.

It could be recalled that in the past, all issues dealing with salaries and emoluments for police officers nationwide were handled by the mechanized salaries structures offices of the Nigeria police force.

Therefore, with the new order of e-salaries payments, the old structures are likely to collapse, since every serving officer will henceforth be collecting his salaries and other emoluments through the CBN.

Our correspondent, who visited the Lagos state police command headquarters on Thursday, for instance, observed that officers were busy filling and submitting their forms, even as it was gathered that the dateline for the submission of the forms, which was earlier fixed for this Friday could be extended.
