Wednesday,
October 21, was yet another day of near tragedy in Lagos Island, south-west
Nigeria, as some elderly women, children and men were trapped when a building collapsed
in the area.
Our
correspondent gathered that the incident occurred early this morning at Odunfa Street
in Lagos Island.
Though, the
cause of the collapse could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this
report, sources in the area however disclosed that most buildings that collapse,
could be due to the builders using sub-standard materials for the construction
of the buildings.
However,
Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesman for the national emergency management agency in
south-west, while confirming the collapse said that an elderly woman and a
15-year-old boy was among the persons rescued from the collapsed building.
According to
him, rescue officials are have condoned off the building to ensure that more trapped
persons are rescued on time.
