Chukwudi Nweje, the features
editor of Daily Independent newspaper was among the persons honoured on
Saturday in Lagos, south-west Nigeria for his contributions to the eradication
of corruption in Nigeria.
Speaking during the St Valentine day bash organized by Coalition against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL,
Comrade Debo Aderiran, Executive Director of the non-governmental organization,
said that he has noted over the years that Daily Independent has been on the
forefront in reporting anti-corruption issues in the country.
to Adediran, Nigeria cannot progress if the unpatriotic activities
of corrupt persons are not tackled, saying that his NGO has over the
years investigated and exposed corruptions and corrupt leaders at the local,
state and national levels.
The CACOL leader further disclosed though Nweje is not a member of
his organization, he has however used his position as the features editor
of Daily Independent to expose injustice, mans inhumanity to man,
corruption and other social vices.
“On behalf of my NGO, I
wish to express my profound gratitude to the management and staff of Daily
Independent newspaper for their painstaking stand in employing tried,
tested and experience journalists, who reflect all sides while reporting their
stories”, he said.
Comrade Muyiwa Olalegba was the other person hounoured
by CACOL during the valentine day bash that attracted human rights activists,
journalists, religious leaders, student’s union officials and others within and
outside Lagos.
Nweje, while speaking with our correspondent thanked the
management of Daily Independent newspaper for providing a credible platform for
journalists to practice their profession.
He also expressed his gratitude to CACOL for the honour, saying
that it will motivate him to do more through his pen in assisting to clean-up
the country of corruption and corrupt leaders.
