Evangelist Elijah Usang was not born into a Christian home. Infact, his parents were idol
worshippers in Yarr local government area of Ogoja in cross river state, south-south
Nigeria, where he hails from.
He explained
on Thursday at his home at Agbeleke area of Abule Egba in Lagos, south-west
Nigeria, that from the day he was born, his parent told him point-blank, when
he grew up that there was something unique and mysterious about him. He was
different in his ways and characters.
“Therefore, I was exempted from participating
in the daily idol worshipping events carried out by the family, simply because I
gave my life to Christ at the age of 10 and started attending Apostolic Church
in Ogoja, cross river state”
That appeared
to be the beginning of the journey towards discovering his talent as a musician
as he further explained that at the church, he was encouraged by members who
listened to him sing to join the choir, where he displayed his baritone voice
to the glory of God and service to humanity.
Today,
Usang, who has re-located from Ogoja in cross river state to Lagos, has moved a
step forward. He recently released his 6-tracks album on the benefits of
becoming a Christian and therefore a vessel in the hands of God.
The tracks on the album are: I am a
child of God, arise and shine, God of open doors, the Lord is my shepherd, Hallelujah
to the Lord, and Lord, I thank you.
The born-again
Christian-cum upcoming gospel musician says he gets to sing while sleeping and
in a dream state and as soon as he wakes up, he will record the song in his
phone or it will be lost forever.
I have spent close to N500, 000 to
record my maiden album and my dream is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to
every nook and cranny of this world through the musical talent God has given
me.
But, like
every up-coming artiste, Usang, married with children may not have the
financial muscles to realize his dreams, if corporate bodies and Godly
individuals do not come to his aide.
