Why CRAAAI is planning a forum on adulterated engine oil in Nigeria

     By Precious Udom
Comrade Moses Igbrude, executive director, Consumer Rights Awareness, Advancement and Advocacy Initiatives (CRAAAI) , says  his non-governmental  organization is planning to  hold a one- day interactive forum on “Combating engine oil adulteration in Nigeria”.

Igbrude in a press statement made available on Wednesday to www.vicnuel.blogspot.com said that CRAAAI is a non-profit and non-governmental advocacy group, whose humanitarian mission is to  mediate between providers of goods and services and their consumers to ensure customer satisfaction via value optimization.

According to him, engine oil otherwise known as lubricants performs the functions of ensuring optimal performance level for automotive engines used across several sectors of the economy- land transportation, marine transportation, aviation, power generation and other industries.

He further disclosed that any form of adulterated oil is therefore a threat to the economy, insisting that in recent times this unwholesome phenomenon has reared its ugly head via the practice by some unscrupulous manufacturers and businessmen, thus eroding value, creating crises of confidence and raising doubts about safety issues.

There is therefore, every need for continuing enlightenment of stakeholders.

This is what has necessitated CRAAAI to create this forum in collaboration with Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), with the aim of creating awareness on the negative effects of oil adulteration amongst stakeholders and galvanize them to proffer solutions to tame it.

The forum targets stakeholders in the entire value chains in the automotive industries operating in Nigeria, journalists, public commentators, government officials and other members of the public.

Details of the forum are as follows:

    Date: Wednesday 18th February, 2015.
Venue: Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry Center (LCCI), Alausa,      Ikeja, Lagos.
              Time: 9am – 3pm

The CRAAAI leader said that at the end of the forum, sufficient awareness should have been created for participants to be able to distinguish between genuine and adulterated engine oil.

They will also be persuaded on the economic importance of patronizing and insisting on genuine automotive engine oil at all times.
