Why marginalization, deprivation should be addressed- Niger-Delta women

    Janet Bassey
Niger Delta women under the aegis of United Niger Delta Forum Women of Destiny have vowed to address what they referred to as an age long deprivation of God’s endowment that would have been a blessing to the women of the region.

Speaking through the National Women Leader Ese Glory during the formal inauguration/fund raising ceremony of the body in Lagos over the week end, the body bemoaned the situation they found themselves which they noted as an instrument of impoverishment caused by the activities of some personalities they described as nefarious and greedy who are working with” invading powers to be”.

It frowned at the now commonplace situation where the distressed and suppressed Niger Delta women are in the news for the wrong reasons of either prostitution or any other related crimes nationally and internationally.

The body therefore pleads with its women folks to always hold their heads high, eschew any form of activities that will bring them into disrepute.

Giving reasons for the evolvement of the body at this time, she cited poor leadership that reduced the Niger Delta women to fetchers of water and hewers of wood as reason for the urgent need to change the status quo.

On the way forward,  Ese reiterate that though the body strongly  oppose violent and confrontational approach to resolving issues, nonetheless holds the view that articulated vision for directional vision will just about do it.

Expatiating further, she noted that having indentified that societal vice is traced to poor leadership, it has therefore become pertinent that the body’s fundamental objective is to sensitize and educate members on the need for the judicious utilization of their political sovereignty.

They vowed to cast their votes in the next election for credible candidates who will be sensitive to the plight of the Niger Delta Women of Destiny

“Our women are hungry, our environment completely rendered unproductive. We demand the establishment of governmental projects that will eradicate the untold hardship we are going through” she concludes
