NO fewer than 1000 LASTMA special traffic majors on Tuesday
morning storm various roads in the Lagos metropolis to assist other government
agencies in controlling the hectic traffic on the roads.
Our correspondent, who covered the event, observed that as early as 7.00.a.m, the majors dressed in their jackets and tee-shirts were seen on major roads around Pen Cinema in Agege, Ogba, Ikeja, Fagba and its environs controlling traffics.
Some of the roads where the majors stationed themselves were: Iju-Ishaga, Agege Motor Road, Ijaiye, Akilo, Obafemi Awolowo, Moshalashi, Funsho Williams, Ikorodu road and Lagos-Abeokuta expressway among others.
Speaking with our correspondent, Segun Badejo, chairman, LASTMA Special Traffic Majors for Lagos state said that majors from 10 areas in the state participated in the exercise.
These are: Area Charlie, Area Bravo, Area Alpha, Area Echo, Area Foxtrot, Area Gulf and Area Juliet among others.
Badejo, former chairman of Alimosho local government area further explained that majors in are professional in various fields of human endeavors, who sacrifice their time and resources to assist the Lagos state government in controlling the hectic traffic logjams along various roads and routes in the state.
According to him, the majors ensure that motorists obey traffic
professionals, avoid making phone calls, avoid over speeding and avoid drinking
alcohol and fastening of seat belts, while driving.
Othman Tajudeem Adesina, LASTMA Special Traffic Majors commandant
for Area Charlie, Agege, Lagos thanked the majors for assisting the traffic
agency in decongesting traffics in the state.
